Healthy Aging Alberta Gathering in Medicine Hat
(May 21, 2026)
For the first time, Cycling Without Age Medicine Hat attended the Healthy Aging Alberta Gathering, held in Medicine Hat on May 21. This annual in-person event brings together community organizations, care partners, senior facilities, and older adults to foster connection, share ideas, and explore community-driven approaches to healthy aging.
The trishaw, brought on site by Dan Hager, CWA bike mechanic lead and pilot, generated a great deal of interest throughout the event.
Besides providing excellent visibility for our program, the gathering also gave us the opportunity to connect with key leaders, including site leaders and Board Chairs from the facilities we serve. They spoke very highly of our program, sharing positive feedback from both residents and families.
We were also honored to be joined by Jane Williams-Hu, Executive Director of Cycling Without Age Canada and our national ambassador.
Reflecting on her visit, Jane shared: "Spending time with the incredible team from Cycling Without Age Medicine Hat at the Healthy Aging Alberta event filled my heart with pride. What this community continues to build goes far beyond rides on a trishaw. It is about connection, dignity, inclusion, and reminding seniors that they are seen, valued, and loved. The impact being made in Medicine Hat is a reflection of a community that truly cares for one another. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all caregivers, health professionals, volunteers, care home staff, families, and community champions who show up every single day to support others. The work you do often happens quietly behind the scenes, but it changes lives in ways that matter deeply. A strong community is one where people take care of each other, where generations stay connected, and where kindness is treated as essential infrastructure. Cycling Without Age Medicine Hat is proving what is possible when compassion meets action. Thank you to everyone involved for sharing your stories, your passion, and your commitment to helping older adults. I am grateful to be part of this team that is building together.”
